Step by step
Open your Business Profile
Sign in to the Google account that manages your business, then search Google for your business name and city, or open the Google Maps app and tap Business.
Go to the phone number
Select Edit profile, then Contact. Next to Phone number, select Edit.
Check the number
It should be the business number your customers know, the one you forward to FrontDesk Talk, or your FrontDesk Talk number if you ported it to us. Fix it and select Save if it’s wrong.
Allow for a review
Google says it reviews changes before they go live on your profile, so an edit may not show right away.
Make sure that number forwards
If the number on Google is a cell or an office line, set up forwarding with that carrier so calls you miss reach your receptionist.
Call it from Google
Search for your business on a phone that isn’t forwarded, tap Call, and check that you hear your receptionist when you don’t pick up.
Don’t list your FrontDesk Talk number on Google if you forward to it. List the business number you already have, and let forwarding do the rest, so you can change setups later without touching your profile.
Common problems
An old number is still listed
A number from a previous office or an old cell keeps ringing somewhere nobody answers. Update it on your profile, and forward the old line if you still have it.
More than one number
Google lets you add up to 2 more numbers besides your main one. Make sure every number you list either forwards or gets answered.
Your hours don’t match
If Google says you’re closed, some callers won’t try. Check your hours while you’re in the profile, and add special hours before holidays.
Questions
Can I see how many calls came from Google?
Google says its call history feature ended on July 31, 2024. Calls from your profile still come in, and you can still track other engagement numbers for your business there. Your Talk Notes, the call summaries from FrontDesk Talk, show every call your receptionist answered.
Should I use my FrontDesk Talk number on Google?
If you forward your existing number, keep that one on Google. If you port your number to us, it’s already the same number, so nothing changes.
Why hasn’t my change shown up yet?
Google reviews edits before they go live. If it’s been a while, check the profile for a message from Google about the edit.
